Have TISM split?
TISM played Melbourne's Hi-Fi bar last night (September 26, 2003).
Was it their last ever gig?
Victims of TISM in apparent disbelief
A moshpit full of victims stood in disbelief last night when TISM walked off stage after a show full of signs that the masked marauders may never return.
In the inevitable post-gig-mortem, the crap list (and its pale imitation on yahoogroups) has been indundated with speculation from stunned victims.
But surely they can't be serious mum?
It's true that in the past there have been signs that TISM might quit. But just when you thought you'd never have to see that grotesque naked body again, RHB, Flaubert and their band of wanna-be wankers would return, thrusting yet another third rate album into a market already saturated with their drivel.
What makes us think they won't be back?
First, there were the little signs, the ones that only real victims would recognise:
- There was no encore
- They dragged a victim up on stage and let him sing River Phoenix
- They flung the microphone out into the audience and let the moshpit sing Defecate
- Stage diving was initiated by Les Miserables. Les doesn't mind the odd dive, but TISM etiquette dictates that he can only go in after RHB has been in a couple of times
And then there were some more obvious signs:
- The theme of the show was "Save Our TISM"
- Special one-off "Save Our TISM" T-shirts were printed and sold at the show
- The stage backdrop was a telephone room showing a fundraising telethon in progress. The aim was to raise $1 million to save TISM. By the end of the night, they were $1 short (despite being pelted with gold coins when the announcement was made)
- Publicity on the Hi-Fi Bar website said: "TISM return to the HiFi after their killer Grand Final Eve show back in 2001. Expect a similar wild night from the masked ones as they play their only Australian show this year. Will they ever play live again? Who knows, so make sure you don't miss out on a truly legendary Australian live act."
- They were selling off older merchandise at $15 a pop
So, what do you think? Are TISM rooted?
